Some raved about McCoy’s Pizza dishes so we tried having our lunch there last March 3. The place is small and cozy. Staffs are nice. Food prices are the same with that of the common fast food joints like Jollibee or Mc Donalds.
You can’t go wrong with a fried pork chop. hehe! The salad consists of lettuce, cabbage shreds, carrot strips, cucumber and a thousand island dressing. The fried chicken is a little bland for me. The pasta used for the spaghetti is more like a generic brand, soggy and hard. the gravy and mushroom soup is diluted and bland. The 2 small pizza are thick with toppings and tastes good.
How to get there:Located in National highway.
Ride a tricycle. fare starts @P8/pax depending on your location. Or via multicab or jeep for P8/pax. Inform the driver to drop you at McCoys.
Most of my guests would often ask me. “Where else can we go if we only have more than half a day before our flight?” If you’re a beach lover, one of my answer would be in White Beach.
Many of the hotels would advertise that there location is near or in front of a white beach. Honestly, I still consider Pristine white Beach as the only local beach where you could really swim. Most of the other local beaches in the city proper are either too muddy or the water is low enough for swimming.
When we were kids, this is our to go place for a family gathering. It quite popular to the locals. I can’t even remember what name came first, Nasin-aw or Silica. All I can remember is that we call it WHITE BEACH. If my memory serves me right, it used to be a whole beach then it was divided into 2 or 3 by the owners hence came Nasin-aw, Silica and Pristine, where they have separate entrance routes from the highway.
Now, only Pristine white beach is in operation. The road is still not cemented but it looks way better now.
Entrance fee is affordable. Cottages, tables and chair are available for rent. If you only plan to visit for a short period of time and don’t mind sitting on the sand, no need to pay the rentals. Food and snacks are also available but I haven’t tried their dishes since I always bring our own Pica pica and baon when we go there.
I highly recommended this beach if you have spare time in Puerto Princesa particularly for those who have kids and toddlers since the water is calm. I prefer bringing my son here compared to the beaches in Honda Bay since he doesn’t like it when he see waves, even small waves. The water level is low enough for kids to enjoy and could be high enough too for adults specially during high tide.
How to go there: hire a tricycle for P30-50.oo. Regular fare rate is P10/pax. The location is quite remote but there is now a tricycle terminal near the gate entrance. Tricycle hire starts at P50-60 depending on your location. You could also get your tricycle driver’s number to be safe, just in case there’s no available vehicle in their terminal since transportation is scarce in the area.
Every time someone goes home to Puerto Princesa, our forever requested pasalubong are French bread and Chao-long. First place I dined upon arrival is in Bona’s Chao-long.
This is an open eatery where most of the locals would go for their chao-long cravings. It is one of the oldest eatery in the area if my memory serves me right. Food prices are also affordable.
How to get there: it’s located in Manalo St., ride a tricycle and tell your driver to bring you to Bona’s. the place is quite popular. Fare starts at P8/pax depending on your location.
This place is definitely a must try while in Puerto Princesa City! 😀
This diy post about Puerto Princesa should have been posted earlier since I could just gave out instructions but waited until I experienced going to those places using public transportation. Here’s my Puerto Princesa City Tour Do-it-Yourself experience from my recent home town visit last March 1-4 with Aaron. I did not include Iwahig Penal farm since I don’t know how to commute going to Iwahig. hehe! 😀
1. Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center ( Crocodile Farm): located in Irawan, a 30-45 min travel via tricycle and/or multi-cab.
How to go there: Depending on your location, walk or ride a tricycle going to Rizal Avenue or National Highway. Ride a multicab with the IRAWAN signage. Fare is P20/pax coming from the city proper. It’s the last stop in most of the trips and in the highway so no worries in missing it. Going back is also easy, you could wait for a multicab that would pass you or walk a few meter to the multicab terminal.
Go inside and pay the entrance fee. Sign could easily be seen coming from the gate. Then go the lobby entrance.Sign your name in the logs and wait for the guided tour to start which is every 30 min.
After the short orientation, you will start the tour from the small crocodile (hatchery) going to the big one. The guide will let you explore the other parts of the park on your own.A map could be seen directing you to the location of the rescued animals.
Souvenirs are cheaper outside the exit area from the park.T-shirts are sold the same price all over Puerto Princesa but I prefer the designs availability in here.
2. Baker’s Hill: located in Sta Monica.open 9am-6pm
How to get there: ride a multicab with Irawan Signage (not sure with the Sta Monica route). Fare is P15/pax from the city proper. If coming from Crocodile farm, Fare is P8/pax.Inform the driver to drop you at intersection going to Baker’s Hill. Landmark would be the large Butterfly Garden Sign on the other side of the road. It is located uphill, a tricycle terminal is available near the road for P30/trip. So that is P60/tricycle round trip or bargain for a trip including Rancho Mitra which is a few meters from Bakers Hill. No entrance fee.
Baked goodies, pica-pica and paluto available in Baker’Hill. The place is great for kids (toddlers) because of the playground and for those people to love to do photo ops. I personally like the white cheese pizza for P329.00
3. Rancho Mitra: located in Sta Monica, few meters from Baker’s Hill, open 6am-6pm
It’s been a while since the last time I had been here but the view is still as good as I remember it.They now have activities to offer such as horse back riding (P100/pax) and zipline. You can only explore the ground since the house is not open to the public anymore.
Updated ( Sep 17,2014) Rancho Mitra’s house is now open again to the public, .For P10.00 you can access the whole sala and see the big wooden trunk at the center.
4. Palawan Butterfly Eco-Garden and Tribal Village: located in 27 Bunk House Rd Sta Monica.open 8:30-5pm
how to get there; Ride a multicab with Sta Monica signage and ask if they will pass “paharaw”. or the Irawan signage. It’s on the other side of the road going up to Bakers’Hill and Rancho Mitra. A big sign is also available on the road. fare is P15/pax.Entrance Fee: P50/pax for the butterflies, few animals, tribal village and free phyton touching. Not bad! 😀
Butterfly garden just opened after a few months of being closed for renovation. We skipped this since Aaron is scared of Butterflies.
5. Binuatan Weaving Center: located in Sta Monica.
I haven’t been here and forgot to include this in my last visit.hehe This is not in the road side and is a part of the tour package offered in Puerto Princesa. This place is also worth visiting particularly if your fond of trying hands on experience on weaving.
